Plot[]
We've all received games from the bargain bin section of the store, and one of the worst offenders are plug and play games. Jon shows off his collection of Plug and Play consoles including the oh-so iconic SpongeBob one where you use his nose as the paddle, two of the Namco Museum toys resembling miniature arcade tables, and a smattering of other licensed consoles which contain varying degrees of unfortunate visual implications. The first of four Spider-Man consoles is simply a controller patterned to resemble Spidey's suit, which has the side-effect of making the control stick resemble a Spidey-patterned dick. The Fantastic Four console has the team's logo in an orb suspended on a curved rod, most likely referencing Reed Richards. While this is not inherently phallic, the addition of Ben Grimm's (The Thing) face on the console as its action button creates the illusion that the console is alive and the joystick is the dick. A Spider-Man 3 movie tie-in console has Spider-Man's head as the joystick, which Jon remarks is barbaric-looking, resembling a head on a pike.
Among the further-displayed toys are (in no particular order):
- A Spider-Man console resembling the top of a building, with a miniature Spider-Man perched to the side of the joystick, staring up at it, which makes Jon uncomfortable. "A watched man never plays."
- A Spider-Man console resembling a traditional game controller, but with a Spidey figure perched on the lower center of the controller performing his iconic "thwip!" hand gestures. Jon notes that with how the controller will most likely be oriented in the hands, the "thwip" hands inadvertently point towards his crotch.
- A Shrek-themed console where the ball-top on the joystick is made of soft, squishy plastic, complete with a pair of equally squishy ogre ears on the sides, despite otherwise being fairly normal. This openly grosses Jon out, which was likely the intent.
- A Deal or No Deal console which is fairly standard, but Jon immediately says "No deal!" likely due to the game being boring as shit.
- A Scooby-Doo console shaped like the Mystery Machine. The console features a 3D Scooby on the back of the minivan screaming in fear, but the shape and position of the figure (and Jon's chosen camera angle) make it appear like Scooby is fucking the van.
Jon makes it a point that the games in these licensed consoles typically weren't of poor quality, but they lacked a lot of the meat 'n' potatoes of more fully-fledged games, and had little staying power as a result.
Then Jon shows 'Game Fillip' - perfect for children with no necks. It actually advertises that it comes with AV cables! The whole thing is just NES ports with misnamed titles.
Jon tries a different one called 'Power Kracker' - The Greatest Game Machine in the Planet! It claims that it has 76,000 games on it! But once again, there are no original games in here at all. How about we try Super Mario, at least we know what we're getting into. 'Mr Mary' begins instead. Jon says "I have several questions." He then breaks the controller.
The 'Pro Games Player' is his third attempt at finding something original. This one claims 51 games in 1, and according to the box, it looks promising to see something new. And all of the games were NES games. Jon then throws the controller, and a new menu pops up with the original games on it. You have to take out the cartridge to play the games. Jon plays 'Hitting Mices' - where you throw beanbags at mice? 'Exist' is a Feeding Frenzy clone with horrible looping music and really long copyright date. 'Cute Fish' has a terrifying fish on the title screen, followed by a confusing menu. In fact, a lot of the games seem to be water themed. Jon also plays 'XMas Gift' and 'Edacity Snake' - which is just 'Snake'. Space Invader clones also seem to be quite popular here. There are also a lot of puzzle games and two lawn mowing games. The whole thing is full of games that rip off other games.
After he plays all of the games, Bootleg Michael Jackson appears and creates a JonTron Bootleg Game.
Trivia[]
- The sword Jon wields during the Brave Boy segment ("I'm a brave boy!/Not a brave enough boy for this!") is the controller for the game "Kenshin Dragon Quest" which itself is a plug-and-play system licensed by Square Enix. The controller is a miniature toy replica of the recurring 'Erdrick's Sword' from various Dragon Quest games.
